Our Charity

Supporting Local Children in Need

Founded in 1904, the Charity of Edward William Johnson has a long-standing commitment to alleviating hardship among local school children up to the age of 13. Through financial assistance and support, we help ensure that children can access crucial educational resources and services.

We have successfully supported countless local families, fostering a brighter future for school children in our community.

The Legacy of Edward William Johnson Charity

Founded in 1904, the Charity of Edward William Johnson began with an annual event known as the ‘Johnson Tea’ held at Payne’s Cafe Royale. After enjoying decades of service, the charity entered a period of dormancy but was revitalised in the 1960s thanks to the efforts of the Town Council and the Charity Commissioners, leading to a new scheme to govern the Trust.

Following its establishment, the charity has transitioned from hosting community events to focusing on alleviating hardship among local children up to the age of 13, making a significant impact in the community.

The charity’s mission is to support local school children, ensuring their access to vital services and education during challenging times.
